Our board members are working with local funeral homes, churches and individuals to uncover the many voices of those buried at White Rock Cemetery. As we gather more photos and information, we will update our website.  

Thomas Jefferson Anderson

T.J., "Jeff" Anderson was born in Amherst County, Virginia, the son of slave parents John Anderson and Eliza Tucker. He was one of four blacks who sat on the Lynchburg City Council.

Dr. Frank Poindexter Lewis

Dr. F.P. Lewis was born in 1904 in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1923, he graduated as president of the first class to finish Dunbar High School in Lynchburg. As he continued in higher education, his thirst for knowledge resulted in obtaining several Bachelor's and Master's degrees with highest academic honors. Dr. Lewis returned to Lynchburg to teach for 40 years at the Virginia Seminary and College, where he was later named Vice President.

Dr. Kyle M. Pettis

Dr. Kyle Pettis treated countless patients during his medical practice of over 50 years at his offices on 5th Street in Lynchburg. Among his other activities, Dr. Pettis was a member of Lynchburg General Hospital's visiting staff, a member of Jackson Street United Methodist Church and Alpha Phi Alpha National Fraternity, and served as the vice president of the Virginia Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company.
